ALL WORK AND NO PLAY: MOBILE PULSE POLLS REVEALS AMERICANS’ LACK OF DAILY EXERCISE ROUTINES

Commute Length and Lack of Onsite Fitness Facilities Factor into Daily Exercise Routines
Research has shown that exercising has both physical and mental health benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are seven benefits to regular physical activities including better sleep, mood improvements and energy boosts. Yet a recent Lightspeed Mobile Pulse Poll reveals that only 21% of respondents exercise for 60+ minutes three times per week and 26% of respondents report they don’t exercise at all. Only 8% of respondents exercise six or seven days per week.
A contributor for Forbes recently claimed that organizations are becoming increasingly aware that company culture and office perks, ranging from flexibility to onsite fitness centers, has a direct impact on productivity and can significantly improve employee satisfaction. According to the Mobile Pulse Poll, only 27% of respondents claimed their workplace has an onsite fitness facility or classes, but 74% claim they would exercise more if such facilities or classes were available to them.
Further key survey findings include:
- Commuting: 40% of respondents spend 15 to 30 minutes commuting to work. 25% spend less than 15 minutes
- Remote working: 22% of survey participates report they work from home sporadically, 47% never work from home and 17% work from home all five days
- Breaks: 85% of respondents report they actively get up several times a day to stretch or walk
